AMSA National Blood Drive

Thank you

The Red Cross would like to thank AMSA for the donation of $1 845.44, which came from donations made by students upon registration to AMSA's National Convention in Brisbane in 2009. Click here to read the letter.

Did you know that Australia needs 26,000 blood donations each week?

Donating blood is one of the few times that as a medical student you can save a life, and not just observe. The annual AMSA National Blood Drive is a hotly contested competition, with the Vampire Cup up for grabs. It is officially launched at National Convention, and runs from the end of Convention until August 31.

Each time you donate, your university receives one point. Fact: every whole blood donation can help save up to 3 lives.

If you are a plasma donor, you are able to donate multiple times during the Blood Drive period, so gain even more points for your uni! Fact: Plasma donations can be used to make up to 16 different products.

Donating blood is a service to your community that all Australians should endeavor to participate in as regularly as possible, and AMSA hopes that you as medical students will go beyond a donation, and help to advocate to the rest of their community about how they too, can help save a life.

So, how do you make your donation count? You need to quote a code which is unique to your university. To find out the code for your university and where to donate, contact your local AMSA representative.
