Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are studying or wish to study medicine or other health-related courses. Students receive $15,000 per year for the duration of their course. Applications are due around the end of August each year.

Defence Force Scholarships

The Australian Defence Force sponsors undergraduate and graduate medical students to undertake their studies, and provides an annual salary, textbook allowance, HECS/HELP reimbursement, subsidised rent and meals, and free healthcare. After graduating medical officers are required to serve for the number of years they were sponsored plus one.

John Flynn Placement Program (JFPP)

The JFPP offers the students the opportunity to do two-week placements for four consecutive years in the same rural or remote community. Recipients receive $500 per week per placement plus the cost of travel and accommodation. There are 150 scholarships offered each year. Applications close March 19.

MIGA Elective Grants Program

This Elective Grants Program provides funding for a number of medical students to pursue an elective program in a developing community (including developing communities within Australia) or country.

The grants consist of five individual Elective Grants of $2,000 and five individual Medical Support Grants of $1,500. The Elective Grants are to assist in funding the medical student's elective, including the cost of travel, accommodation and vaccinations. The Medical Support Grants are in addition to the Elective Grants and are to assist in the purchase of medical or other aid for the community visited as part of the elective.

Rural Australian Medical Undergraduate Scholarships (RAMUS)

The 2011 application round for the Rural Australia Medical Undergraduate Scholarship (RAMUS) Scheme will open on 9 November 2010 and close on 17 January 2011.
