“CREATIVITY, CAPABILITY, CAPITAL” AUSBIOTECH 2011 CONFERENCE ADELAIDE 16-19 OCTOBER 2011

The AusBiotech 2011 conference, with its theme “Creativity, Capability & Capital” is proudly hosted by AusBiotech, the biotechnology industry organisation representing more than 3,000 members, in the interests of developing the biotechnology sector in Australia.

    When: Sunday 16 – Wednesday 19 October 2011

Where: Adelaide Conference Centre, 111 Adelaide Road, Adelaide SA

What: High profile and experienced speakers will provide relevant, specific presentations on their practices, and outline the key issues and challenges they face.

Who: Anyone from the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, business, investment, research or health industries will gain valuable skills and insights by attending.

The conference provides an excellent opportunity for networking and learning and will include speakers looking at Asian and other foreign investment (including large pharma) and industry changes due to digital technology. The conference will also include the Australasian Life Sciences Investment Summit on 19 Oct. Last year, 150 investors from around the world attended this showcase of the 40 most promising Australian biotechnology companies actively seeking capital or partnering opportunities.

This year’s conference theme is based on the three vital elements that are key to the biotech industry’s ability to grow and be sustainable:

Creativity is at the heart of the new ideas and innovation that begins in our research institutes and universities and continues into trials and commercialisation as companies mature and grow.

Capability is key to implementation in biotechnological innovation, where skills and know-how is the vehicle that drives new products and ideas through trials, regulatory approval and to the markets they will serve. Aside from knowledge in the life sciences, the industry thrives on business skills, the ability to do deals and to market and sell products.

Capital is the ‘life blood’ of the biotechnology industry and access to it dictates the time to market. Reducing the time it takes to get biotechnologies to those who need them means faster revenues, enabling the chain to continue.

These themes will be explored through discussions around strategies to bolster “creativity, capability and capital” in Australia’s already vibrant biotechnology industry.

    Plenary Speakers:

    • Dr Cathal O’Reilly, Managing Director, Centreview Partners, London:  “Australia in the global pharma and bio-pharma context.”

    • Dr Joseph P Miletich, Senior Vice President Research and Development, Amgen, USA: “Biotechnology industry faces an explosion of scientific advancements and a tsunami of real world challenges.”
