AMSA: Executive determines direction for 2009

AMSA is the peak representative body for 13,000 medical students from 19 medical schools around Australia and is run each year by a team of students, elected by the AMSA National Council. National President, UNSW student Tiffany Fulde, said the team was excited to begin what promises to be a busy and incredibly rewarding year. “There continue to be many important issues facing medical students, including increases in student numbers, resultant pressures on training resources, and the capacity of the health system to provide internships and subsequent training to graduating students,” she said. ”Our team will work to ensure that stakeholders in medical education, including government, universities and hospitals provide a well trained and sustainable medical workforce for the future of Australia’s health care system,” Ms Fulde said. AMSA’s mandate is to connect, inform and represent its 13,000 student members. AMSA advocates for students on issues including university education, clinical training, student wellbeing, national registration and accreditation and the availability of internship places.
