Medical Students Pitted Against one another in Blood Donation Drive
23 July 2010
Australia’s medical students are competing against one another to donate the most blood between 12 July and 31 August as a part of the Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) National Blood Challenge.
In the annual event, medical schools compete for the prestigious AMSA Vampire Cup which is awarded to the medical school with the highest number of blood donations.
President of the Australian Medical Students’ Association Ross Roberts-Thomson said that event is successful because medical students tend to have a competitive nature and see first-hand those who are benefiting from this service.
“Each blood donation saves three lives and is a service to the community that all Australians should endeavour to participate in as regularly as possible.
“This year, we hope to donate even more blood and raise further awareness about the vital role that blood donors play in the Australian healthcare system.
“I will certainly be donating as many times as possible to give my University the best chance at winning,” he said.
People interested in donating blood should call the Australian Red Cross on 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au.
