AMSA Rural Health
AMSA Rural Health is the peak representative body for rural-background students, rural clinical school students, and the rural health interests of medical students Australia-wide. AMSA Rural Health supports and facilitates medical students’ engagement with rural health and advocates for students on rural issues.
Aims of AMSA Rural Health
To advocate for students of rural background and on rural clinical placements.
To advocate for more rural training pathways – A National Rural Generalist Pathway and Specialty Training Program options.
To promote rural and regional opportunities to engage students as the rural health workforce of the future.
We believe that the best way to improve access to health services for rural Australians is with evidence-based solutions, such as better postgraduate training pathways, rural experience during medical school, and supporting students of a rural background. To this end, AMSA Rural Health will continue to advocate for specialist rural training opportunities and support for students of a rural background in 2018. We will also research and publish a Rural Clinical School Report Card, which will provide a snapshot of rural clinical schools and placements. Beginning with medical schools in NSW and Victoria, we want to hear YOUR thoughts and experiences - watch this space!
Rural Health Summit
The Rural Health Summit (RHS) is AMSA Rural Health’s premier event. In 2018, RHS will take place in Albury, on the banks of the mighty Murray River. RHS showcases inspiring speakers and stimulates discussion, debate, and skill-building around all things rural health. If you’re passionate about rural health and want to become involved, don’t miss RHS18!
Keep an eye out for AMSA Rural Health’s annual magazine, FRONTIER!, to find out the amazing places a rural placement can take you. We welcome contributors if you’d like to write for us about your rural experiences, advocacies, and passions.
