AMSA Activ8 National Co-coordinator Callouts 2019

08 Sep 2018

What is Activ8?

The mental health of medical students is increasingly becoming recognised within the media and within our medical schools as an important issue that needs to be addressed.  It has been shown that medical students have similar psychological wellbeing to other students before entering Medicine, but this drops throughout the course.

Activ8 Mental Health was established by the AMSA Mental Health in 2018 to complement AMSA MH’s other initiatives, as a campaign solely focused on preventative mental health and wellbeing. In order to raise awareness around self-care and engage medical students, the campaign was constructed around eight pillars of wellbeing (see below) that support health and wellbeing.

Each month from March to October one of the 8 pillars is run as the focus of the campaign which includes social media posts, monthly competitions, research articles, blog posts and activities suggestions for med students to incorporate the pillar in their own life. For examples of posts, competitions and activities run as part of the campaign, visit our AMSA Mental Health facebook page.

Activ8 team and format for 2019

Moving into 2019, Activ8 will be run as an autonomous project separate from AMSA Mental Health Project. The project will cover the 8 pillars over 8 months, with material for each pillar to be released over one week of each month ie. 1 week on, 3 weeks off.

We are recruiting 2 National Co-coordinators to oversee the production of material for the campaign. Key responsibilities include liaison with the Global Health Projects for pillars relevant to Activ8 (eg. Healthy Communities and Code Green), and the coordination of grassroots events and competitions in addition to campaign material.

Application Process

Please complete an application with the following questions in this wufoo form (include link). You will be required to upload a CV in the form.

1. Tell us about your passion for self-care and preventative mental health.

2. What is your vision for Activ8 2019?

3. How do you intend to generate sustained student engagement with Activ8 over such a long period (8 month campaign)?

4. What relevant skills or experience will you bring to the project? How would you feel about upskilling in design?
