Call out: International Students' Network - SEO & MW/OP 2017

04 Apr 2017

In Australia, 1 in 6 medical students are international students, and AMSA strives to represent every one of these students as effectively as possible. AMSA’s International Students’ Network (ISN) was created to address the interests of these students.

The goals that have been set out as foundations for the ISN are:

  1. To advocate for all international medical students studying in Australia

  2. To provide support for graduating international students seeking internship in Australia

  3. To provide support for international students wishing to return home to complete internship

  4. To assist graduating international students who are unable to attain an internship in Australia in finding employment alternatives

  5. To connect current and future international medical students and to inform them of the issues currently facing international students in Australia

The term for all positions will be from January 1st 2017 until December 31st unless otherwise specified. In this application round, ISN is seeking applications for the following roles:

General Committee

  • Student Engagement Officer

  • Member Without Portfolio

Any medical student who is interested in participating in the work of the ISN General Committee may apply. Any candidate that has a strong interest in international medical student issues is encouraged to apply. The listed ideal characteristics outline the selection criteria that applications will be assessed against while desirable skills are non-essential but confer bonus points to the candidate’s application. We encourage applicants for General Committee positions to apply irrespective of whether they meet all ideal criteria, as eligibility for these positions is not dependent on any previous experience.

Application Process

Applicants are required to complete and submit an application consisting of a current curriculum vitae of no more than two A4 Pages as well as one A4 page write-up indicating the candidate’s vision of the role, suitability and relevant experience which can be supported with relevant documentation. Please email all applicable documents in one email to or for consideration. Applications will be assessed by a selection team comprised of members who are not applying for the listed positions.

The deadline for applications is Sunday, 30th of April at 23:59 AEST and late applications will not be considered. Phone and Skype interviews will be conducted thereafter. Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application no later than 7 days after the interviewing period. Successful applicants will be expected to participate in a handover period whereby they observe the running of the General Committee prior to participating, before being involved in the planning, strategic direction and execution of General Committee targets.

 Recommendations for Applicants

It is highly recommended that individuals contact the incumbent position holder as a matter of priority to register interest and discuss their application. It is also highly recommended that interested individuals apply for two positions in which they hold a relevant skill set and are passionate about in order to give themselves every opportunity to be apart of ISN.

 Number of Positions

Currently ISN is looking for a Student Engagement Officer and a Member Without Portfolio. Applicants are unlikely to be successful in obtaining more than one position concurrently in a given term.
